The 72nd National Film Awards will celebrate films that received certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) during 2024.
The selection process was carried out by an 11-member jury headed by filmmaker Jayaraj, who had previously served as a member of the National Film Awards jury in 2012.

The winners will be revealed later this evening.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will stream the announcement live through its official X and YouTube channels, allowing viewers across India to follow the results as they are declared.
Several films across languages in the race
This year's awards are expected to witness strong competition across multiple film industries, with a mix of critically acclaimed and commercially successful films in contention.
Malayalam cinema heads into the awards after another remarkable year, with ‘Bramayugam’, ‘Manjummel Boys’ and ‘Kishkindha Kaandam’ among the films that have generated considerable attention.
Hindi cinema is also represented by titles such as ‘Article 370’, ‘Srikanth’ and ‘Chandu Champion’.
From Tamil cinema, ‘Maharaja’, ‘Meiyazhagan and ‘Amaran’ are among the films that have attracted attention, while Telugu releases including ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, ‘Lucky Baskhar’ and ‘Devara: Part 1’ are also expected to feature prominently in discussions around the awards.
Top acting categories also under the spotlight
Unlike many other film awards, the National Film Awards do not announce nominations before revealing the winners.
Even so, names such as Mammootty, Sivakarthikeyan, Vijay Sethupathi, Karthi and Sai Pallavi are widely expected to be among the contenders for the top acting honours.
