Fresh witness accounts have added new details to the final hours of former One Direction singer Liam Payne, nearly two years after his death in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Sworn statements from two women who investigators say were with Payne on the day he died have emerged as part of the ongoing examination into the circumstances surrounding his fatal fall from a hotel balcony on October 16, 2024.

The newly reported testimonies, obtained by the Daily Mail, provide investigators with one of the most detailed accounts yet of Payne's behaviour inside the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in the hours before his death. The statements have resurfaced as legal proceedings continue against individuals accused of supplying the singer with illegal substances.

Witnesses recount events inside hotel room

According to the investigation documents, the two women were hired through escort services and spent several hours with Payne at the hotel. The Daily Mail described their sworn statements as significant to the investigation, reporting, "Because Liam had so many fans and because his death so young was so shocking, there is a lot of misinformation out there. These sworn statements by the women who were in the room with him on the day he died is the closest we will ever get to the truth about what happened."

One of the women told investigators that Payne contacted her through WhatsApp on the morning of October 16.

"Liam contacted me via WhatsApp today (October 16, 2024) around 11 am. The whole time he spoke to me in English. He told me who he was, and he sent me a video of him."

She alleged that Payne ordered alcohol after they arrived.

"He ordered champagne for us and, for himself, two bottles of Johnny Walker Black Label whisky. We saw that he was doing something like crystal meth with bits of tinfoil."

Authorities have not publicly confirmed the specific substance referred to in the witness statement.

Alleged dispute over payment

The women claimed that after they had consensual sex, Payne was unable to provide the cash payment he had allegedly promised and instead offered a luxury watch.

"We told him we only wanted money, so he took it and smashed it. He told us he didn’t care about the money. And then he broke the TV; he punched it. He made us understand that he could smash everything because he knew he could pay for it," one woman alleged.

The other witness described a similar sequence of events.

"I told him we were leaving; he got angry and punched the TV three times. He wanted to rip it open."

According to their statements, Payne followed them out of the room before they eventually reached the hotel lobby. One of the women said she informed two members of the hotel staff about what she described as his erratic behaviour before leaving the property.

Singer reportedly apologised before women left

The statements further allege that after one of the women realised she had left behind personal belongings, hotel staff contacted Payne. He reportedly invited the pair back to the room, apologised for his behaviour and asked them to remain with him.

The women said they left the hotel at around 4 pm. Payne died just over an hour later, at approximately 5.07 pm, after falling from the balcony of his third-floor room.

Investigators later reported that toxicology tests detected alcohol, cocaine and the anti-anxiety medication Klonopin in Payne's system. Reports that emerged after his death also alleged that his psychiatrist had previously stopped treating him because he continued drinking while taking prescribed medication.

Stay in Argentina before fatal incident

Payne had travelled to Argentina with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, who stayed with him during the early part of the trip, along with Argentine businessman Roger Nores. Reports cited in the investigation said Payne had not been using drugs while Cassidy remained in Buenos Aires.

He reportedly stayed in the country while waiting for approval of a US visa application. Before checking into CasaSur Palermo Hotel, Payne had allegedly been asked to leave another hotel following disruptive behaviour.

Several men accused of supplying Payne with illegal drugs are facing criminal proceedings in Argentina.

Remembering the One Direction star

Payne first found worldwide fame after appearing on 'The X Factor' in 2010, where judges brought him together with Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson to form One Direction. The group became one of the biggest pop acts of the decade before announcing an indefinite hiatus in 2016.

As both a vocalist and songwriter, Payne helped create chart-topping hits including 'Story of My Life', 'Night Changes' and 'Steal My Girl'. He later established a successful solo career with songs such as 'Strip That Down', featuring Quavo, and 'For You' with Rita Ora. His final single, 'Teardrops', released in 2024, offered a more personal direction before his death at the age of 31.
