Mumbai: Former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar  on Thursday, took a moment to remember the late Ustad Zakir Hussain, sharing a throwback video on Instagram. In the clip, the ‘God of Cricket’ is seen attempting to learn a pitched percussion instrument under the guidance of the legendary musician.

In the video, Ustad Zakir Hussain effortlessly plays the instrument, trying to help Sachin grasp the technique. However, as Sachin himself explained, his muscle memory was shaped by years of sports training, making it hard for him to pick up the musical technique immediately. Despite his struggles, the cricket star reflected fondly on the experience, writing in the caption, "Memories with the Maestro."

Tributes pour in for the legendary musician  

Ustad Zakir Hussain passed away on December 15, leaving a huge void in India’s music scene. His passing was felt deeply by many, with tributes pouring in from all corners of the entertainment industry. Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar expressed his sorrow, sharing an image of Zakir Hussain on social media with the caption, "Very pained to know about the sad demise of Ustad Zakir Hussain Sahab. He was truly a treasure for our country's musical heritage. Om Shanti."

Veteran Tamil actor Kamal Haasan also paid his respects, sharing an old image of Zakir Hussain giving the taal to him as he played the tabla. Haasan wrote, “Zakir Bhai! He left too soon. Yet we are grateful for the times he gave us and what he left behind in the form of his art. Goodbye and Thank you.”

Oscar and Grammy-winning composer A R Rahman, who had the privilege of working with the maestro, also mourned his loss. Rahman expressed his regret for not being able to collaborate with Zakir Hussain in recent years, saying, "Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. Zakir Bhai was an inspiration, a towering personality who elevated the tabla to global acclaim. His loss is immeasurable for all of us. I regret not being able to collaborate with him as much as we did decades ago, though we had planned an album together. You shall be truly missed. May his family and his countless students worldwide find the strength to bear this immense loss."
