Opted OTT releases to support colleagues: Mohanlal
Kochi: Mollywood star Mohanlal has opened up about choosing OTT platforms for the release of his movies. Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, the ‘Drishyam’ actor stated that he opted for OTT releases to support his colleagues amid the pandemic. At the same time, he declared that his big-budget movie ‘Marakkar-Arabikadalinte Simham’ was produced for theatrical release.
“ During the COVID crisis, OTT platforms were the only option to release movies. There are thousands of families who depend on the film industry. So, I wanted to help them by being a part of OTT films. At present, we already signed a contract with OTT platforms for the release of ‘Bro Daddy’ and ‘12th Man’. A decision on other films will be taken depending on the situation,” said Mohanlal.
Earlier, producer Antony Perumbavoor declared that Mohanlal’s upcoming five movies produced by Aashirvad Cinemas will have a direct OTT release. It was rumoured that ‘Marakkar’ will also have a direct OTT release. But later the makers decided to go for a theatrical release on December 2.
Meanwhile, Mohanlal dismissed the reports on signing a contract with Amazon Prime Video for ‘Marakkar’ release.
“ Amazon Prime Video will not allow us to release the movie in theatres if we have signed a contract with them. The reports on OTT release of ‘Marakkar’ are baseless,” he added.
