The controversy surrounding 'L2: Empuraan' shows no signs of settling, even after 24 cuts, keeping discussions heated with many finding it "anti-Hindu”. Amidst this, Malayalam actor Chandini Sreedharan, who previously worked with actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran in ‘Darvinte Parinamam’, shared her thoughts on the controversy in an exclusive interview with Mathrubhumi English.

As she prepares for the OTT release of ‘Pravinkoodu Shappu’ on Sony LIV on April 11, Chandini reflected on why audiences should focus on the cinematic experience that a film delivers rather than controversies surrounding it.

“I think movies are made to entertain the audience. Documentaries are made to educate audiences. For me, as an audience member, I think I view a movie for its entertainment value. But everybody has different perspectives and beliefs and stuff like that. But I think in general, I watch a movie for its entertainment value. People should watch a movie for its entertainment value,” said the actor.

Chandini also emphasised that while films are meant to be enjoyed for entertainment, with big projects come big controversies.

She continued to say, “Also, the bigger something is, the more controversies and problems are associated with it. 'Empuraan' is like the biggest Malayalam movie. It features our superstar Mohanlal, is directed by Prithviraj, and the script is written by Murali Gopy. It's a huge project on its own. You know when someone's doing really well, when someone's really big, people point out the negatives or any possible downfalls or mistakes, if there are any. And I think that's just something that just goes along with it.”

She further continued her stance that films should be watched for entertainment purposes only. Quoting Vidya Balan from ‘Dirty Picture’, Chandini said,

“But I, as an audience member, watch things for their entertainment value. I'm acting and dancing, singing just to entertain, entertain, entertain. Like how Vidya said in that movie – it's entertainment, entertainment, entertainment. I love her.”
