Acting as robot Kunjappan was not so easy, says Sooraj Thelakkad
Everyone was surprised to know that Sooraj Thelakkad, who is popular with television shows, acted as the adorable robot in Suraj Venjaramoodu starrer 'Android Kunjappan Version 5.25'. In an interview with Mathrubhumi, Sooraj revealed more about the making of Android Kunjappan.
Dressed up like a robot, Sooraj acted without showing his face for 45 days. Director Ratheesh Balakrishnan invited him to act as the robot.
The costume of the robot for Sooraj was made in Mumbai. About three months before the shooting, mould of the robot was prepared by taking measurements of Sooraj. Unfortunately, Sooraj put on weight when the shooting started. He struggled a lot to lose weight to make himself fit to the robot’s costume.
“During the shoot, I was exhausted as the robot’s attire was unbearably hot. Within four days, I suffered cough and cold due to sweating. My co-actor Suraj told me it would be better to shave off my hair. At first, I was not ready, but finally I decided to have the shaved look for Kunjappan,” Sooraj narrated his experience.
“In the climax scene, I fell on the ground after getting beaten up by someone. Though the director said cut to the scene, I didn’t respond as it was difficult to hear the sound inside the robot’s costume. So all the crew including actor Suraj were worried and they immediately surrounded me,” added Sooraj.
Sooraj dressed up like robot Kunjappan after one hour long preparation every day. A person was arranged to assist him and a special chair was also provided to him at the set.
