Kozhikode: Mathrubhumi has released the short list of seven books for the Mathrubhumi Book of the Year Award 2020.
The winner will be declared and award will be presented during the third edition of Mathrubhumi International Festival of Letters (MBIFL) 2020, which will be held at Kanakakkunnu Palace in Thiruvananthapuram from January 30 to February 2.
The seven novels are:
- Ib’s Endless Search for Satisfaction by Roshan Ali (Penguin)
- The City and the Sea by Raj Kamal Jha (Penguin)
- A Secret History of Compassion by Paul Zachariah (Context)
- The Far Field by Madhuri Vijay (Harper Collins)
- The Scent of God by Saikat Majumdar (Simon & Schuster)
- There is Gunpowder in the Air by Manoranjan Byapari (Eka/Westland)
- Blue is like Blue by Vinod Kumar Shukla (Harper Collins)
The annual Mathrubhumi Book of the Year award carries a prize money of Rs 5,00,000 and a sculpture. The inaugural edition of the award had received an enthusiastic response from the publishing industry across the country.
"The Mathrubhumi Book of the Year award is a commitment from Mathrubhumi to honour the best in Indian literature. We are inspired to honour and celebrate brilliant works and encourage publishers to look for the best writing by Indian authors,” said M. V. Shreyams Kumar, Joint Managing Director, Mathrubhumi.
