Sashi kumar is a renowned journalist and runs the media institute Asian Collge of Journalism in Chennai. He is also the founder of the first private television channel Asianet in Malayalam. He started his career as a newsreader in Doordarshan and later moved on to print journalism.

He moved to become a television producer and has produced independent programmes on politics, economy and culture.

He has also scripted and directed the movie Kaya Taran in Hindi which won him the G. Aravindan Film Award for the best debut film maker in 2004. He has acted in a few Malayalam movies as well.
