Won first prize in short story competition instituted by Mathrubhumi Varaanthapathippu for ‘Ghatikarangal Nilaykkunna Samayam’. This one story gained him fame in the industry. His first short story collection (Ghatikarangal Nilaykkunna Samayam) and first novel (Manushyanu Oru Aamukham) won him Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award. Manushyanu Oramukham won many honours. Its English translation won Crossword Book Award.
India Today selected him as one of the 20 young talents of Malayalam.
The Week selected him as one of the 50 young talents of India who excelled in various avenues. He was the only Malayalam writer to feature in the list of outstanding young Indian writers compiled by The Times of India.
