Meena Kadaswamy is an anti-caste activist, poet, novelist, and translator. Her works are centered around caste annihilation, feminism, and linguistic identity. She uses her poetry as a tool to fight against the stringent subjugation and atrocities undergone by the non-dominant caste community. Her works discuss caste, gender, and ethnic oppression. Meena received many awards and accolades including the Hermann Kesten award, Hindu Lit Prize, and the Women’s Prize for Fiction. Her major writings include ‘AYYANKALI: A Dalit leader of Organic Protest’, ‘When I Hit You: Or, A Portrait of the Writer as a Young Wife’, and ‘Ms. Militancy’ to name a few.
