Known as ‘novelist of the newsroom’, Raj Kamal Jha is Chief Editor of The Indian Express where he has worked since 1996 after The Statesman in Calcutta and India Today in New Delhi. He has been awarded Journalist of the Year at the National Red Ink Awards by the Mumbai Press Club.

A mechanical engineering graduate from IIT Kharagpur, Jha has been a visiting professor in journalism at University of California, Berkeley, and an Artist-in-Residence in Berlin with the German Academic Exchange.

His first novel The Blue Bedspread won the Commonwealth Writers' Prize for Best First Book (Eurasia). His second novel If You Are Afraid of Heights was a finalist for the Hutch-Crossword Book Award. His third novel, Fireproof, was named as the best book published in India in 2006 by CNN-IBN.

His fourth novel, She Will Build Him a City, was shortlisted for the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature, 2016. His fiction has been translated into more than a dozen foreign languages. His fifth novel will be published this year.
