Kamal is a popular Malayalam movie director. He was born in 1957 in Kodungallur. He joined Thrissur Kalabharati after college to learn cinema. His uncle Yousuf Padiyath and actor Bahadoor helped Kamal to step into film industry.

‘Thrasam’ is the first movie written by Kamal. He worked as an associate director with P. N. Menon, K. S. Sethumadhavan and Bharathan. ‘Mizhineer Pookkal’ was the first movie directed by Kamal.

He directed 42 movies including Unnikale Oru Katha Parayam, Kakkothikkavile Appoppan Thadikal, Pookkalam Varavayi, Ghazal, Ulladakkam, Ayal Kathayezhuthukayanu, Gaddama, Celluloid and Aami. In addition to Malayalam films, Kamal has also directed movies in Hindi and Tamil.
