G. Venugopal is a popular playback singer in Malayalam film industry. He started his career as playback singer by singing the Hindi portion of a song in the movie ‘Odaruthammava Aalariyam’ released in 1984. He became famous after singing the songs ‘Ponnin Thinkal Pottum mane’ and ‘Rari Rareeram Raro’ for the movie ‘Onnu Muthal Poojyam Vare’ directed by Raghunath Paleri.
He is the nephew of the popular Carnatic singers Radhamani and Saradamani known as ‘Paravoor Sisters’. Before entering into playback singing career, Venugopal was selected as Kalaprathibha of Kerala University for five years in a row.
He bagged the State Award for the best playback singer in 1988, 1990 and 2004 for the songs Unarumee Ganam (Moonnam Pakkam), Thane Poovitta Moham (Sasneham) and Adadee Adadadee (Ullam) respectively. He has sung more than 300 film songs, many light music, poems and devotional songs.
