Spanning over 2,200 km, the expedition traverses iconic high-altitude passes like Umling La.

Commemorating its 125th anniversary, Royal Enfield, the prominent global manufacturer in the mid-sized motorcycle market, announced on Monday the opening of registrations for the 22nd edition of its annual Himalayan Odyssey.
For more than two decades, the challenging expedition has served as a benchmark for the brand's "Pure Motorcycling" philosophy, organising gruelling long-distance group rides set against the geography of the world's highest mountain ranges.
Interested participants can now register through the official Royal Enfield corporate website.
For the 2026 iteration, the event has been restructured into four separate travel formats designed to accommodate varying skill levels among contemporary adventure riders. The geographical routes provide multiple approaches to the Ladakh territory, concluding at a singular destination in the Himalayas.
While previously marketed toward experienced endurance motorcyclists, the multi-route expansion aims to attract a broader demographic of motorcycle tourists. For the first time, the expedition will operate simultaneously across four distinct itineraries: the Himalayan Odyssey Original, Explore, Kargil Circuit, and Nubra Circuit.
The 2026 Scheduled Formats and Routes
- Himalayan Odyssey Original (June 25, 2026 – July 10, 2026): The core 16-day expedition remains the standard format for the event. Commencing and concluding in Chandigarh, this fully supported itinerary traverses Himachal Pradesh, Zanskar, and Ladakh, emphasising formal riding formations and sustained periods in the saddle.
- Himalayan Odyssey Explore (June 26, 2026 – July 5, 2026): Designed for autonomous travel, this option offers limited mechanical support, requiring participants to transport their own personal equipment across demanding terrain while navigating independent routes.
- Himalayan Odyssey Kargil Circuit and Nubra Circuit (June 29, 2026 – July 5, 2026): Originating from Leh, these secondary "Satellite" formats operate under the thematic titles of "The Frontier & The Sands" and "History & Heritage." The shorter journeys focus on cultural interaction and local histories within the Himalayan region.
The comprehensive event encompasses a total riding distance exceeding 2,200 kilometres, charting courses over some of the highest high-altitude mountain passes open to motor vehicles. The tour includes passages through Khardung La and the remote mountain pass of Umling La, emphasising endurance and shared logistical challenges among participants.
Environmental Initiatives and Sustainable Tourism
The enterprise continues its institutional emphasis on sustainable tourism through the ongoing #LeaveEveryPlaceBetter campaign. Originally introduced during the 2019 Himalayan Odyssey, the initiative focuses on reducing the ecological footprint of the group ride by enforcing a zero single-use plastic bottle protocol.
To achieve this, the company maintains a network of community water filtration systems across the Manali-Leh transit corridor. Six permanent purification units operate at strategic logistical service centres and campsites, including Keylong, Sarchu, Leh, Nubra, Pangong, and Debring. Three additional mobile purification systems accompany the tour, providing filtered water directly to riders to eliminate the need for commercial bottled water.
Corporate Distribution and Promotional Channels
The organisation is promoting the 2026 event across its official digital platforms, utilising the Instagram handles @royalenfield, @royalenfieldrides, and @royalenfieldhimalayan alongside the promotional tags #HimalayanOdyssey2026, #22ndHimalayanOdyssey, #RoyalEnfieldRides, and #RoyalEnfield.
