Bella Hadid has never tried to hide the reality behind her glamorous public image. While millions know her as one of the world's biggest fashion stars, the 29-year-old model has spent years reminding fans that much of her life is shaped by chronic illness.

This week, Hadid once again gave followers a deeply personal glimpse into that reality.

A series of emotional Instagram Stories showing the supermodel in tears quickly spread across social media. In the posts, Hadid revealed that she is experiencing another severe Lyme disease flare-up.

"Healing isn't linear"

Hadid explained that one of the hardest parts of living with Lyme disease is the uncertainty.

She shared that every time she believes she has finally found the right treatment plan, another flare-up reminds her that recovery doesn't always follow a straight path.

"You demand answers that no one can find. You fight. You finally have a few good days. You think you've found the right protocol, the right routine, the right treatment... and then a flare up comes back and all of a sudden nothing feels certain again." she wrote.

In another post, she reflected on the emotional side of chronic illness, saying she constantly has to remind herself that "healing isn't linear." She added that she believes every struggle has a purpose, even if it is impossible to understand in the moment.

Every day tasks have become major victories

Hadid revealed that she had been sleeping for around 11 hours at a stretch, still needing daytime naps, and feeling exhausted despite following treatment plans recommended by numerous specialists over the years.

She shared that she becomes breathless just walking to the kitchen and described taking a shower without fainting as one of her biggest accomplishments that day.

She also spoke candidly about the mental fog that accompanies the illness, joking that her "last two" brain cells were arguing with each other.

Fans worried and Bella responded

Thousands of fans flooded social media with messages of encouragement, while many expressed worry after seeing the model crying on camera.

Seeing the response, Hadid later returned to Instagram to reassure everyone that the update was raw and the reality she has lived with for years.

According to Hadid, this cycle of good days and bad days has been part of her life for roughly 15 years. She thanked supporters for their kindness, writing that every day brings another opportunity to hope for better.

Living with Lyme disease for more than a decade

Hadid was diagnosed with Lyme disease as a teenager in 2012 after years of unexplained symptoms.

The illness has affected several members of her family. Her mother, Yolanda Hadid and brother, Anwar Hadid, have also publicly spoken about living with Lyme disease.

She stepped away from fashion to focus on recovery

In 2023, Hadid temporarily paused her modelling career to undergo intensive treatment. During that period, she shared hospital photos and medical updates, describing nearly 15 years of what she called "invisible suffering."

After gradually returning to work, she appeared at high-profile events, including the Cannes Film Festival and international Fashion Weeks, leading many fans to believe she had turned a corner.

Her health story extends beyond Lyme Disease

In interviews, particularly with Vogue, she revealed that she developed anorexia nervosa during her teenage years after taking medication prescribed for ADHD, explaining that the treatment significantly reduced her appetite.

She has also spoken about Body dysmorphia, Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, Hypothyroidism, Endometriosis, PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) and PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome).

For now, Bella Hadid says she is taking things one day at a time, holding onto the belief that tomorrow may be a little better than today.
