Kollam: The ‘See Ashtamudi’ boat service, which has gained immense popularity among tourists, is set to complete two years on March 13. Launched in 2023, the service has seen a steady rise in demand, especially on holidays, leading authorities to plan the introduction of an additional solar-powered boat to accommodate more passengers.

According to Kollam Station Master Jose Kainakari, the boat service has so far generated a revenue of ₹1,75,24,430  crore. The boat departs daily at 11:30 am from Kollam Boat Jetty and follows a scenic route through Ashtamudi Veerabhadra Swamy Temple Boat Jetty, Koivila, and Kallada River before reaching Kannangattu Kadavu (Munroe Island). The journey continues through Perungalam Dhyana Theeram, the historic Dutch Church, Peruman Bridge, and Kakkathuruthu, finally arriving at Prakkulam Sambranikodi. At Sambranikodi, passengers have the opportunity to disembark and enjoy the breathtaking views of the backwaters.

The return journey reaches Kollam by 4:30 pm. The boat, built at a cost of approximately ₹1.9 crore, features a two-tier seating arrangement with 60 seats on the lower deck and 30 on the upper deck. Both levels are equipped with eco-friendly restrooms.
