Horror stories and eerie myths often surround historical locations around the world. But in Delhi, a travel vlogger has brought a new perspective to one such local legend.
Nakul Chhabra Dehlvi recently shared a video on his Instagram, suggesting that a ‘haunted’ tree in Dwarka Sector 9 might actually be concealing a forgotten historical site hiding in plain sight.
In the video, Nakul explores the area around the mysterious tree, delving into the chilling tales associated with it while also offering a surprising theory that challenges the popular haunted narrative.
He says, “It is said that at night, a strange energy is felt around this tree, and because of that, people tend to increase their speed while passing by. But is there really a ghost here? Or is this story hiding a much bigger truth?”
Going beyond the ghost stories, Nakul reveals a surprising detail: the site may actually be home to a historic stepwell that has long been buried and forgotten.
“This is actually a circular baoli, an old stepwell that has sunken over time. Its structure is unique; it’s circular, which makes it quite different from the other baolis in Delhi. And that’s why I would call it a World Heritage Site,” he says.
In the caption accompanying his video, he writes, "What if I told you… that the 'haunted tree' in Dwarka Sector 9 is actually a buried baoli? Hidden beneath layers of concrete and local legend lies a rare circular stepwell, believed to be part of Toganpur village, a name most Delhiites haven’t even heard."
He also references historical documentation of the site, adding, "This forgotten gem finds a quiet mention in Maulvi Zafar Hassan’s survey 'Monuments of Delhi', but today, it hides in plain sight, mistaken for myth. What looks spooky… might actually be sacred."
