Punnapra police officer Alex Varkey embarks on a 94-day cycling journey across 7 Southeast Asian countries to advocate against drugs

Alappuzha: Seven countries. 7,100 kilometres. All on a bicycle. For Alex Varkey, a 38-year-old civil police officer from Punnapra station, that is the next big goal. And he has just 94 days to achieve it.
For Alex, it is not just wandering on a cycle. Over the years, he has pedalled across Kerala and even reached Kashmir. Now, his mission has taken on a larger purpose, spreading the message against drugs and emphasising “true addiction is in travelling”
On September 5, Alex will fly from Kochi to Vietnam, where his international cycling expedition will begin. From Vietnam, he will ride through Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, and finally Indonesia, completing the journey in Bali.
He has undertaken the expedition with special leave and official permission from senior authorities.
Alex will not be alone on this journey. His close friend Sais, an IT professional, will accompany him throughout the trip.
