Television anchor Ranjini Haridas has been a household favorite among Malayalis for over two decades. Renowned for her unique style and candid personality, Ranjini has often found herself at the center of public curiosity, particularly about her personal life and views on marriage.
In a recent interview with the YouTube channel I AM with Dhanya Varma, the presenter opened up about her journey as a TV anchor, the persistent criticisms she has faced, and her experiences navigating life as an independent woman.
During the interview, Ranjini touched upon her relationship with Sarath, a close friend since she was 16, whom she refers to as her ‘partner.’ Speaking about their bond, Ranjini admitted, “Sarath probably wants to take care of me, but I don’t know how to let go. I am a control freak, and this is a big issue with independent women.” She acknowledged how her self-reliance often becomes a challenge in their dynamic.
Ranjini also reflected on her upbringing, crediting her mother for shaping her strength and independence. Her mother, who became a widow at a young age, inspired Ranjini to pursue financial independence. "My mother is a reflection of who I am today. We are probably one of the best mother-daughter pairs I know. I always tell her that I am both her daughter and her husband because I feel like I’ve filled that role," she said.
Despite her mother's strong support system, Ranjini explained how she charted her own path, often taking care of herself without relying on others. “My mother is like the children of god, she never had to do anything by herself. People around her did everything for her, which is actually a blessing. But when it comes to me, I had to look after myself. Even if someone is ready to look after me, I wouldn't let them because I've been trained this way,” she said, adding that her journey toward financial independence empowered her mother as well.
