Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, marked her daughter Princess Lilibet’s fourth birthday by posting rare photos and a personal video on Instagram, offering an intimate glimpse into the family’s private life in California.

The 43-year-old shared a never-before-seen clip of herself dancing while in labour with Lilibet in 2021. The light-hearted footage, set to The Drake Family’s version of Starrkeisha’s “The Baby Momma Dance,” shows Meghan playfully moving beside her hospital bed. Dressed casually, Prince Harry joins in briefly, performing a synchronised squat alongside his wife.

“Both of our children were a week past their due dates… so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn’t work — there was only one left thing to do!” Meghan wrote alongside the video.

The couple’s daughter was born in California during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. Her name pays tribute to the late monarch, whose childhood nickname “Lilibet” emerged when she was unable to pronounce her own name. The affectionate moniker was first used by King George V and became a term of endearment within the royal family.

Earlier on Tuesday, Meghan posted a birthday tribute featuring two photographs of Lilibet — one as a newborn being cradled by Prince Harry, and another more recent picture showing the child hugging her mother.

“Four years ago today she came into our lives — and each day is brighter and better because of it,” she wrote. “Thanks to all of those sending love and celebrating her special day!”

Prince Harry, in his memoir Spare, recalled the day Lilibet was born as a joyful and smoother experience compared to their first child’s birth. He noted that the couple celebrated in the hospital room, where their security team brought them takeaway from In-N-Out and a local Mexican restaurant.

“We ate and ate and then did the Baby Mama dance around the hospital room,” Harry wrote. “Nothing but joy and love in that room.”

He also reflected on the moment he assisted with Lilibet’s delivery, guided by the doctor, and described his emotions upon seeing his daughter for the first time: “I cradled her just a moment, trying to smile at her, to see her, but honestly, I couldn’t see anything… I wanted to say: Hello. I wanted to say: Where have you come from? I wanted to say: Is it better there? Is it peaceful? Are you frightened? Don’t be, don’t be, all will be well. I’ll keep you safe.”

The Sussexes are currently raising Lilibet and their six-year-old son Archie in Montecito, California. Lilibet remains seventh in line to the British throne.
