The requirement for e-pass to travel to Ooty and Kodaikanal has been extended until September 30. Introduced on May 7 for tourists entering these hill stations, the e-pass system was extended beyond June 30 expiration following an order by the Madras High Court.
To assess traffic volumes during the off-season, Bengaluru IIM and Chennai IIT have been tasked with studying the maximum daily vehicle capacity. The court's decision to extend the e-pass requirement follows this, aimed at managing tourist inflows effectively.
While there are no restrictions on tourist visits to Kodaikanal and Ooty, e-pass remains mandatory for those bringing vehicles. All requests for e-pass are accepted. Local residents and bus passengers are exempt from this requirement. E-passes are issued at designated check posts upon submission of necessary documents, facilitated through a QR code scanning system.
