Tourists visiting Ooty and Kodaikanal will have to obtain e-passes until June 30, as per authorities. This requirement applies to all tourists, including those arriving by private vehicles. The district administration emphasised that the e-pass system helps gather essential information about visitors to these hill stations.
E-passes are readily issued to all applicants. While there are no restrictions on the number of tourists visiting Kodaikanal and Ooty, those travelling in private vehicles must have e-pass. However, local residents and those travelling by bus are exempted from this. Checkpoints have been set up to provide e-passes, with the process requiring submission of necessary documents.
The mandate for e-passes follow a directive by the Madras High Court to regulate traffic during the summer season in these popular tourist destinations. The government had initiated an online application system for TN e-passes on its official website.
Visitors have been required to pre-register their visit dates, along with providing information about their vehicles.
