Vagamon: The picturesque glass bridge at Vagamon which is one of India’s longest bridges was a major tourist attraction but it has been closed for over a month since May 30. This bridge that was closed due to adverse weather conditions by Kerala Tourism has not been opened even after a month.
Despite improving weather conditions and the relaxation of restrictions at other tourist spots, authorities have not yet taken steps to reopen the bridge. It is learned that this has caused a major hit in the tourism sector as a noticeable decline in tourist footfall to the area was noticed.
The bridge, constructed as part of the Adventure Park at Kolahalamedu is 40 metres long. It is created out of imported glass from Germany based on the principle of cantilever.
The project cost was approximately Rs. 3 crores. It attracted huge crowds from the initial days and earned lakhs of rupees to the revenue of the District Tourism Promotion Councils (DTPC).
