Trekking to Thoovanam waterfall in Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary bestows an enthralling experience for the visitors here. A walk exploring the rich forest resources, tranquil nature, and unparalleled fauna make the trip an indelible one. Great Indian hornbills are often spotted visiting the falls and forests of Chinnar.
The waterfall is located in Pambar, which is one of the east-flowing rivers in the state.
The waterfall obtained its name ‘Thoovanam’ from its water which falls from 100 feet high reminding the snowy white sky. One could come across animals, including elephants, bisons, deers, sambar deers, peacocks, and even leopards during the trek. Varieties of unique flora such as Arjun tree (‘Neermaruth’), Indian Satinwood (‘Porishu Maram’), Hopea Parviflora (‘Thambakam’), and orchids could be seen while the journey.

Location
At least an 8-kilometre journey from Marayoor on Marayoor- Udumalpett road or 32-kilometre travel from Udumalpett in Tamil Nadu will take one to Alampetty eco-tourist spot. The visitors have to walk via the banks of Pambar for 3 kilometres with the help of guides to reach the Thoovanam waterfalls. Trekking will be allowed only from 8.30 am to 4 pm daily.
Expenses
The entry fee to the eco-tourist spot is Rs 300 for locals while Rs 700 is charged for foreigners. The visitors can pre-book their tickets by contacting the Munnar ward office and Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary. Contact number: 04865231587
