More than 300 parties chose Kerala as their destination for weddings. According to government data, 289 destination weddings took place at the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation’s (KTDC) Bolgatty Palace, four at Kovalam Samudra, and 20 at Kumarakom Waterscapes.
The progress of government's 'Destination Wedding' project was disclosed in a reply given by Kerala Tourism Minister P.A. Mohammed Riyas in the State Assembly to a starred question dated 26 June 2024. He also elaborated on the government’s destination wedding project.
In Thiruvananthapuram, opposite Shankhumugham Beach, the DTPC's Muthuchippi Park has been announced as a wedding destination through advertisements. An annual rental of Rs 12,50,000 + GST and a security deposit of Rs 3,12,500 have been fixed.
To promote Kerala as a top wedding destination, the tourism department organised promotional campaigns at airports and on social media platforms. Following this campaign, there has been an increase in leveraging Kerala as a wedding destination, according to the tourism department's assessment. Besides private sector enterprises like hotels and resorts, the government sector has also launched a wedding destination centre at Shankhumugham Beach, led by the DTPC, in collaboration with the Shankhumugham Beach Tourism Centre.
Kerala's enchanting charm, recognised as one of the world's most attractive wedding destinations, was showcased in the music video "Shubhamangalyam," featuring the renowned Indian-American singer Vidya Vox. The video, shot in locations such as Alappuzha’s backwaters, Vagamon, and Marari Beach, depicts non-Malayali couples celebrating their weddings in Kerala. "Shubhamangalyam" has already garnered over 2 million views, highlighting Kerala's natural beauty and its reputation as a suitable wedding destination.
With the goal of transforming Kerala into a premier wedding destination, the tourism department has rolled out the 'Destination Wedding' project. Highlighting Kerala's unparalleled natural beauty, picturesque locations, connectivity, and excellent accommodation facilities, the department aims to make Kerala the leading hub for wedding tourism. The objective is to attract weddings from other states and foreign countries to Kerala's tourist centres, thereby increasing both domestic and international tourist inflow.
