Vagamon glass bridge, an instant hit
The major attraction of the season in Idukki is the newly installed glass bridge in Vagamon. The structure has the distinction of being the longest glass bridge in the country.
Meanwhile, opening up of the Devikulam gap road has helped in easing the traffic to an extent.
However, the situation wasn’t any different on the Adimali-Munnar, Kumily-Thekkady, Kottayam-Vagamon-Elappara and Kanjar-Pulikanam roads. Severe traffic congestions were experienced in those regions this year as well.
On the brighter side of things, hotels and resorts in the tourist areas cashed in on the opportunity and reaped profits.
Unlike in the previous years, the number of North Indian tourists were relatively less when compared to those from neighbouring states including Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. There was also a significant rise in the number of tourists to Idukki from the Malabar region this year.
