Gopu Gopalan

Pandalam: Gopu Gopalan started the journey on his cycle from his house on February 9, travelled through 13 states and three union territories and finally arrived at Khardung La situated in the Leh district of Ladakh, within 204 days. His aim is not just to travel and see places, but also to make people aware of the conservation of natural resources and the need to reduce plastic usage. 

Gopu enjoyed the heartwarming sights on his way to the north. He toured villages and lived as one among them. He saw unseen sights, unexplored cuisines, vivid attires, different languages and cultures. 

Gopu had gone on a bike trip five years back and travelled to Kedarnath, Badrinath and Rishikesh. But this was his first time travelling a long distance on his cycle. He cycled for about 80 kilometres daily, slept in tents and prepared food for himself. His cycle was damaged three times during the journey. 

Gopu has a Diploma in Oil and Gas Technology. This 29-year-old dreams of making trips outside India once he gets a sponsor. 

Gopu is the son of Gopalan and Omana. Sister: Gopika.
