Kannur: A team of forest officials led by KS Deepa, Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF), Kannur Northern Circle, visited Perambra Estate on Thursday to inspect a potential site for a tiger safari park. The estate is located in Chakkittapara panchayat and is leased by the Plantation Corporation from the forest department.
A detailed inspection by an expert team will follow. The top officials will take the final decision after inspecting the places considered in Wayanad and Kannur districts.
The decision to establish a tiger safari park in the Malabar region was taken at a high-level meeting attended by forest minister AK Saseendran on September 20. An eight-member committee headed by the Chief Wildlife Warden has been appointed to locate the site.
Meanwhile, various organisations have protested against the move to set up a safari park in the Chempanoda region, including trade unions INTUC and HMS.
