Thrissur: The price of insulin Glargine used to treat type 1 diabetes will considerably decrease as part of the central government’s measures to curtail the hike in Wholesale Price Index (WPI) of essential medicines.
The new ceiling price of insulin Glargine (injection) is now Rs 217.74 down from Rs 244.13 and cartridges and vials of the drug will be available for Rs 181.45 (excluding GST).
Insulin Glargine has been added to the list of essential drugs recently despite the manufactures’ objections to its inclusion or regulation of its price due to the use if novel technology in its production.
The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority observed that the drug cannot be excluded from the list if essential medicines by based solely merely on differences in administration.
