What is a plate of meal without some flavour? We Indians love varied tastes on our plate and this is probably what leads us to prefer a sweet-sour accompaniment for our meals. The perfect blend of two unique flavours may be a bit tricky to master but never fails to satisfy one’s taste buds.

Let's prepare one such side-dish to satisfy your cravings. Coriander Gojju, a Konkani style chutney, is a perfect combination of sweetness and sourness. Your kids will love it and adults will definitely ask for more.

Ingredients

  • Coriander leaves - one small bunch
  • Dry chillies - 5 or 6
  • Tamarind - 1  lemon sized ball
  • Jaggery - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Mustard - one teaspoon
  • Curry leaves - 2 bunches
  • Coconut Oil - one teaspoon

How to prepare?

Chop off the roots of coriander leaves and clean it well. Grate some jaggery, mix it with some water and let it melt and blend well. Do not heat the mixture. Now, filter the mixture properly and get rid of all the residue and add the coriander leaves to the filtered mix.

In the meantime, heat some coconut oil in a pan on low flame and roast the chillies. Then take the coriander-jaggery mix, tamarind, chillies and salt in a jar and grind it into a fine paste. Don’t forget to add water as necessary.

Check the taste and add more jaggery or tamarind if needed. Otherwise, your yummy Coriander Gojju is ready. Serve it alongside rice or chapati.
