Kozhikode: Spirituality is a dangerous tightrope which can quickly turn communal, said renowned writer Sara Joseph. She made the remarks while receiving Ashitha Memorial award instituted by the Ashitha Memorial Committee from critic Kalpetta Narayanan.
This is the period when the political delusion of creating a ‘one god’ image in a pluralistic world is being scrutinised. The people are being led into darkness in the name of bhakti and god. The most vile isolation and enslavement is taking place now in the name of spirituality, Sara Joseph said.
Callling Ashitha’s life to be exemplary, Sara Joseph opined that this is a time when her spiritual quests should be understood. Soumya Chandrasekhar (story), Ramani Venugopal (Novel), Shyam Tharamel (Poetry), Surendran Sreemoolanagaram (Children’s literature), Treesa Tom (Memoir) and Austin Ajith (Balasree award) received awards during the function.
