Kozhikode: Noted Epigraphist and historian MR Raghava Varier has rewritten the ancient inscriptions recovered from Kerala into Malayalam. These historic inscriptions rewritten into Malayalam will be the highlight of the South Inscription Volume 43 published by Archeological Survey of India.

Kerala history researchers and students will find this book helpful to know about the historic inscriptions. Raghava Varrier has rewritten 180 inscriptions into Malayalam script.

These inscriptions were recovered from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram. Temples, churches and mosques were the major sites where the inscriptions were recovered.

Inscriptions on rocks and bronze plates were written in ancient scripts namely Brahmi, Tamil Grantha, Vattezhuthu and Kolezhuthu. Sanskrit and ancient Malayalam are the languages used in most of these inscriptions.

These inscriptions document the major information related to Kerala history.

The rock inscription recovered from a temple at Kurumathoor in Malappuram recorded Sthanu Ravi Varma as the first Perumal king.

“The book on the historic inscriptions will help researchers who are studying on edicts in Kerala. Archeological Survey of India’s Epigraphic department in Mysore has played a major role to combine the historic inscriptions as a single volume,” said Raghava Varier.
