Chelmsford: When only two books of hers were sold at the exhibition in Galleywood Heritage Centre, the aspiring author Vicky Ball from England was anything but disheartened. Instead, with her upbeat attitude, she put up a post on platform X, saying she had managed to sell two copies of her books Powerless and Abandoned. She put a positive spin on it stating there have been events where she has not sold even a single book.

To everyone’s surprise including the author herself, the said tweet went through the roof garnering 24 million views and over 7 lakh likes. The engagement even brought her novels to Amazon’s bestseller list within a span of a few hours. People are now lining up to buy her books.

When her novel Abandoned topped Amazon Best Seller list, she dropped another tweet overwhelmed with emotions.

The novel ‘Abandoned’ delves into the story of an alcoholic mother living with a lot of buried secrets. The book Powerless revolves around a lost adolescent returning home and the twists that follow her return.

Ball, who works at the University of Essex and is also studying for a masters in creative writing, said she wrote Powerless during the lockdown period.

To those aspiring to be a writer, she says, “Write, go with the flow of writing, you can never know where it will lead you.”
