Paravur: “My mother used to say, you must go to the library without fail after school. You can read many great books there.” - Amminiamma, a passionate reader used to tell her son. The young boy, A Sethumadhavan took her words to his heart.

That is how he became a frequent visitor of the Nair Samajam Public library while he was a student at Paliyam school. Sethu, a popular Malayalam writer has now gifted his own books to the library that made him a writer. He contributed 25 books to the library.

Back in those days, 'Library Kurup' was the librarian there. Sethumadhavan was allowed to pick whichever book that he wanted. At first, his love was for detective novels, which later took a paradigm shift to works of Thakazhi, Basheer and Pottekkatt. He had the opportunity to travel to several foreign countries and read works in different languages. He also wrote manuscripts in the library reading room.

His happiness was beyond measure when his work was published on Mathrubhumi Azhchappathippu when he was 25-years-old.

Years after establishing himself as a noted writer, he handed over the books for the library to P A Sojan, who is a family friend and former secretary of the Chendamangalam Kaithari Co-Operative Society.
