Kochi: With the rise in temperature, the prices of pineapples in the market also soared. The price hike is especially due to the decline in production during the dry season coupled with an increase in the market demand.
In the retail markets in Ernakulam, prices have skyrocketed to Rs 90-110 per kg. If current conditions persist, further price hikes are anticipated.
Compared to the previous year, there is an increase of Rs 12 in the price of the fruit. According to the Pineapple Growers Association, the rates, as of Tuesday, stand at Rs 65 for ripe pineapples, Rs 60 for green ones, and Rs 62 for special green varieties.
