Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Agricultural Minister P Prasad announced that 13 more farms in the state are in pursuit of achieving carbon-neutral status.
He made the announcement months after State Seed Farm at Aluva was declared carbon-neutral. It may be noted that Seed Farm at Aluva, is the first farm in the state to achieve this status.
Thiruvananthapuram (District Farm Peringamala), Pathanamthitta (Sugar Cane Seed Farm, Pandalam), Kollam (District Agricultural Farm, Anchal), Ernakulam (State Seed Farm Okkal), Malappuram (District Agriculture Farm, Chungathara), Kozhikode (District Agricultural Farm, Koothali), Kannur (District Agricultural Farm, Taliparamba), Kasaragod (Cashew Progeny Orchard, Adhur), Kottayam (District Agricultural Farm, Kozha), Alappuzha (District Agricultural Farm, Mavelikkara), Thrissur (State Seed Farm Kodassery), Palakkad (Horticultural Development Farm MalamPuzha), Idukki (State Seed Farm Karimannoor) and Thrissur(Athirappilly Tribal Valley Agricultural Project) are entities in pursuit of achieving carbon-neutral status.
The College of Climate Change and Environmental Science (CCC&ES) in Thrissur, the Integrated Farming Systems Research Station (IFSRS) in Thiruvananthapuram, and the Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM) in Kozhikode are responsible for the implementation of the activites planned and certification of farms. The Agricultural Department has signed an MOU with these bodies.
