Mattancherry: The price of black pepper has increased by Rs 38 per kg in the last three days.
On Wednesday, the price of garbled and ungarbled Black Pepper was Rs 656 and Rs 636 respectively. Experts stated that changes in weather patterns and lack of rainfall had an impact on production, resulting in an unprecedented rise in price.
It is feared that the large-scale destruction of pepper seeds will impact production next year. Meanwhile, it is learnt that the rapid increase in price is due to food manufacturing companies in North India stockpiling black pepper.
