KUHS unifies stipend of medical students in private, govt colleges

Thrissur: Kerala University of Health Sciences has unified the stipends of the medical students in the private and government colleges under the university. This will be applicable to the dental college also. The university has issued an order regarding this on Saturday.

As per the order, the stipend dispensed among the government medical and dental students will be available for the students who pursue the same courses at private institutions. The stipends are awarded to the students who do house surgency.



Currently, Rs 20,000 is given as a stipend to students in government medical colleges. Meanwhile, Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000 is being given to the students in private colleges. The house surgeons had carried out protests against this.

In many of the private colleges, the authorities evaded dispensing the stipend by preparing inaccurate data of spending the amount for other expenses.
