Thiruvananthapuram: SCERT all set to provide a special training program for teachers to improve the English proficiency of school children. This time, primary school teachers will undergo the first phase of training during the summer vacations.

Since the new curriculum will be implemented this year, SCERT is bringing up initiatives like interactive lessons where children learn English by talking to AI programmes. A learning plan will also be developed to promote children’s English communication skills without the help of teachers.

Special training will also be offered to teachers handling classes 1,2, 3 and 4. Similarly, emphasis will be given to mathematics as well. Classes 1,3,5,7 and 9 will get the books as per the new curriculum this academic year. Video and audio content of the lessons will also be made available to the children.

The aim of this year’s teacher training is to introduce the textbooks of the new curriculum. Teacher involvement will be further enhanced as changes are being introduced to the assessment system as well. Apart from digital content of textbooks, parents will be provided with a handbook to understand the curriculum.

Kerala could not garner an impressive rank in the National Achievement survey (NAS) 2021. As per the performance index published by the ministry of education, Kerala was relegated from the first to the second-tier.

Subsequently, the education department prepared guidelines for a three-year programme called ‘Comprehensive Quality Education Program’  to strengthen children’s literacy and numeracy skills at the primary level. The aim was to ensure that all children in classes up to seven acquire language and numeracy skills as envisaged by the curriculum.
