Kannur: Two weeks of classes have been completed for the PG courses in Kannur University but a syllabus is yet to be determined. It has been four months since an ad hoc committee was formed to revise the existing syllabus. When this committee makes revisions and passes the order, classes taken following the old syllabus would become technically useless. This has caused immense confusion in the minds of students and teachers alike.
The ad hoc committee was formulated on April 20 to revise the syllabus of 28 PG courses. They were given instructions to submit the revisions by July 16. Classes commenced on August 7. If the revised syllabus had been made available at the time of admission notification itself, students could have chosen courses that suited their specific interests.
There are some complaints coming up that the committee was not formed as per legal criteria. If someone approaches the court in this regard, the syllabus revisions will be shelved once again. Teachers have voiced concerns that at this rate, it will take more than a month for the new syllabus to be published.
Despite revising the Board of Studies (BoS, syllabus revision committee) list multiple times as per the Governor’s order, the Chancellor has not approved it and this is causing the delay, the University explained.
