Thiruvananthapuram: The Exam Reforms Commission of the higher education institutions in Kerala  released detailed suggestions for complaint redressal in view of the increased ratio for internal assessment in the university examinations. The ratio of weightage given to internal examinations has been raised from 20 to 40 per cent recently. By this, the commission expects a surge in the number of complaints from the students.

The commission has recommended publishing the score of the internal examination two weeks before the declaration of semester examinations. The documents regarding the internal examination will have to be stored at least for six months in the colleges. The universities are instructed to form a special system to evaluate the internal examinations conducted by the colleges. It has been decided for improving the efficiency of teachers in executing accurate evaluation and grading.

The universities will have to set up a three level system for addressing the received complaints over the examinations. The first level will constitute the head of the concerned department, a senior lecturer and faculty student advisor. The college principal, head of the department, college level student advisor and college union chairman will comprise the second level.

The issues which could not be resolved in the first two levels will be considered by the third level at university level. It will include the examination controller and university union chairperson. If a complaint could not be settled in a particular level, it will be handed over to the next level along with the recommendations of the previous level committee.

A complaint raised by the student over internal assessment has to be addressed within ten days of receiving it. The commission chaired by Dr CT Aravinda Kumar directed to complete the proceedings within a month if the complaint passed through all the three levels.
