Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has invited applications for its Summer Fellowship Programme 2026. ITM - Summer Fellowship Programme 2026 of two months with a stipend is designed to enhance awareness and interest in high-quality academic research among young Engineering, Management, Sciences and Humanities students through a goal-oriented summer internship to be undertaken at the Institute.

Participating Departments: (a) Engineering: Aerospace Engg; Applied Mechanics & Biomedical Engg.; Bio Technology; Chemical Engg.; Civil Engg.; Computer Science & Engg.; Data Science and AI; Engineering Design; Electrical Engg.; Mechanical Engg.; Medical Science and Technology; Metallurgical & Materials Engg.; Ocean Engg. (b) Science Departments: Physics; Chemistry; Mathematics (c) Humanities & Social Sciences (d) Management Studies

Eligibility: Those pursuing 3rd year of UG (BE / B.Tech / B.Sc Engg./3-year B.Sc. with Chemistry, Physics & Mathematics) or 3rd or 4th year of Integrated / Dual Degree in Masters Programme (M.E./ M.Tech / M.Sc), 1st year of M.Sc./M.A,/ MBA with outstanding academic background in terms of high ranks in University examinations are encouraged to apply.

Applicants should highlight their academic performance and achievement, including papers presented at seminars, projects executed, design contests participated in, score/rank in Mathematics Olympiad and any other awards/distinctions obtained. Students from IITs are not eligible to apply.

The programme is likely to commence from May 18 2026, and continue up to July 17 2026.

Stipend: A sum of Rs 15000/- per month will be given as stipend for a maximum period of 2 months, prorated for the actual period of internship.

Hostel: Hostel and Mess facility will be provided on a payment basis, subject to availability.

Applications can be registered online at this link by 5 pm on 02.03.2026.

The list of documents needed for registration is given on the site. They include a Letter from the Institute where the applicant is studying, issued by the Head of Institution (in the prescribed format), certifying that applicant is a bonafide student and a short Statement of Purpose (not more than one page), which must include areas of scientific interest, potential major project ideas, and any other relevant information for evaluating the candidature.

Application fee of Rs 100/- has to be paid using Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking or UPI.

There is no need to send a hard copy of the applications to IIT Madras

The submitted application can be viewed in the portal using the username and password sent to the applicant’s registered email address.
