The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has updated the registration schedule for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027. Online applications will now open on August 27, 2026, postponed from the initial August 14 start date. Aspirants applying for postgraduate admissions or public sector recruitment can register via the official portal.

The regular application window closes on September 27, 2026, while an extended registration period with late fees remains available until October 5. Indian applicants must mandatory use DigiLocker during the process. The exam will take place across multiple dates in February—specifically February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21, 2027. Examination city allotments will be published on January 4, 2027, followed by the declaration of results on March 19, 2027.

In a major structural update, GATE 2027 expands its disciplinary scope by introducing Robotics and Automation as a new test paper.

GATE scores are widely utilized for admissions into MTech, technical, research, and PhD programs, alongside recruitment drives at various Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). Valid for three years from the result declaration date, the score provides qualified candidates substantial flexibility for academic and professional advancement.

Candidates are strongly advised to verify eligibility criteria, paper combinations, and application instructions well in advance.
