Thiruvananthapuram: The education department has finalised the grace marks that should be awarded for SSLC, higher secondary examination. Marks ranging from three to 100 will be allotted based on their achievements in various national and international competitions.
Apart from that, the ministry has also cancelled bonus points awarded in some national-level competitions that were earlier considered during plus-one admission. This decision was made in conclusion to the several complaints that were received stating that this format results in merit students getting upstaged by students who received grace marks during admission.
Students applying on merit points from eighth grade must furnish certificates validating their participation in state-level competitions during their ninth and tenth grade. Similarly, those applying with ninth grade merit points must provide evidence of their participation in atleast district-level competitions during their tenth grade.
However, the maximum marks scored in a single event will be considered for students who have participated in and won multiple competitions.
