Rohtak: In the aftermath of the Haryana Board of School Education (HBSE) announcing the Class 12 exam results, focus has turned to a list of 100 underperforming schools—18 of which reported a 0% pass rate. The list has been submitted to the Directorate of Education for further action, HBSE officials confirmed.

Despite the overall pass percentage for Class 12 reaching 85.66% this year, a district-wise breakdown showed discrepancies in performance, HBSE chairman Dr Pawan Kumar said. According to him, some schools failed to even cross the minimum 35% pass mark. He noted that there were schools where not a single student passed the examination. In one case, he pointed out that 13 students appeared and all failed. He also pointed out that several of the zero-result schools had only one or two students appearing for the exam, none of whom managed to clear it.

The HBSE has urged the directorate to consider disciplinary measures against teaching staff in these institutions. A copy of the findings has also been sent to the Ministry of Education to underline the gravity of the issue.

Dr Kumar also recommended that teachers from these schools be mandated to attend orientation and training programmes aimed at improving instructional methods. “It’s critical to understand why these schools are failing. Teachers need to revisit their approach and engage more deeply with students and their families,” he said, stressing the need for identifying the root causes of the persistent poor outcomes.

The Board has called for a comprehensive response, combining pedagogical reform with closer parent-teacher engagement, to prevent a repeat of such dismal performance in future academic sessions.
