Kochi: The high court directed the Malappuram SP to ensure law and order in connection with the student union elections of Calicut university. The order was passed by Justice Devan Ramachandran. P Mohammed Safwan, university union convener of Majlis Arts and Science college, had approached the court citing that SFI state secretary P.M Arsho and group may threaten and attack others from contesting against SFI, in the college union elections scheduled on June 10.
It is alleged that Arsho and his gang entered the campus after the announcement of the Dean of student’s Welfare elections and threatened those contesting against SFI. Reportedly, Malappuram SP, DySP and Thenjipalam CI did not take action despite complaints. The petition pointed out that this problem also existed during the last academic elections.
Last year also, the petitioners were granted police protection. The same situation exists now. In this situation, there was a demand to allow police protection. The court adjourned the petition to June 10 and also issued a notice to Arsho.
