Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala agriculture minister P Prasad ordered appointment of Agricultural Production Commissioner Dr B Ashok as vice-chancellor of Kerala Agricultural University (KAU). The minister, who also holds the power of the university pro-chancellor, issued the order after getting the nod of Governor Arif Mohammed Khan. The appointment will be till a regular VC takes charge. 

It may be noted that the VC appointment at the varsity has been prolonged due to various issues. Ever since former VC Dr Chandrababu retired from service, the varsity is devoid of a regular VC. The appointment of B Ashok came as the existing VC in-charge retired on February 28.   

Reorganisation of the search committee for VC appointment has not yet happened. The tussle between CPM and CPI over nominating members to the committee is reportedly prolonging the process. 

Meanwhile, B Ashok came to the agriculture department from KSEB after the sour relationship with employees and unions.
