Painavu: National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved Idukki Medical College’s request for permission to admit a new batch, instilling future hopes for the institute after a nine-year-long hiatus. The present approval is for an intake of 100 students.

It may be noted that citing lack of amenities, NMC (then, Medical Council of India) revoked admissions to the college in 2013. Following that students here were shifted to other medical colleges. Since then, the college has been requesting but the council dismissed them all. Even the request raised a few months ago was rejected.

The intervention of Idukki Development Commissioner Arjun Pandyan and the Hospital Superintendent turned crucial in the approval that has been granted now. They had submitted the report elaborating on the amenities in the college. To avoid rejection, they also provided visuals corroborating the same. That’s how the college’s request was re-considered.
