The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) has announced a re-evaluation of Class 12 English examination papers for 2025, following the use of incorrect answer keys caused by a “human error”. The error affected the compilation of marks and has prompted the board to initiate corrective action.

The original Class 12 English paper was rescheduled from 8 March to 29 March after staff at Government Senior Secondary School, Chowari (Chamba district), mistakenly opened the Class 12 question paper on 7 March, thinking it was meant for Class 10.

After the Class 12 results were announced on 18 May, numerous students reported unexpectedly low marks in English. Complaints were raised by the Himachal Pradesh Government Teachers Union (HPGTU) and private school associations. In response, Education Minister Rohit Thakur ordered a probe.

HPBOSE Secretary Vishal Sharma confirmed that an internal inquiry found incorrect answer keys from the cancelled paper had been used for marking. The board will now re-evaluate only those English answer sheets affected, and only upward revisions in marks will be made. No student’s marks will be reduced.

Revised results are expected to be announced shortly.

As per the original results, 83.16% of the 84,930 students who appeared for the HPBOSE Class 12 exams passed. Mehak from Una district topped the Science stream with 486 marks (97.2%).
