IMSc Chennai invites applications for project and research positions under external projects; apply by November 12

The Institute of Mathematical Sciences, an autonomous institution under the Dept. of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India, and a national institute of higher learning that fosters high-quality fundamental research in frontier disciplines of mathematical sciences at 4th Cross Road, CIT Campus, Taramani, Chennai 600 113, has invited applications for project positions under the external projects.
The engagement will be on a contract basis for a period indicated for each from the date of appointment on a consolidated salary.
The title of the subproject, the name of the project position, the number of positions, and the minimum educational qualifications & experience are as follows:
Ramalingaswami Re-entry Fellowship—Investigation of liquid-liquid phase separation as a general organizing principle for cellular decision-making (up to 10.10.2026): Research Assistant (RA)—1 position.
Essential Qualification: Applicant should have a PhD degree in physics, chemistry, or mathematics from a reputed university or institute and should have at least two publications in reputed journals. Knowledge of statistical mechanics and polymer physics is required. Desirable Qualification: Applicant should have a strong grasp of polymer physics.
NCCR/MoES—A computational ecotoxicology approach to construct and characterize heavy metal-specific adverse outcome pathways relevant in marine risk assessment (up to 31.03.2026): Project Assistant (Computer Programmer)—1 position.
Essential Qualification: Applicant should have a B. Tech. or M.Sc. degree in Computer Science.
Desirable Qualification: Applicant should be proficient in computer programming, in particular, database and dashboard development.
NCCR/MoES—A computational ecotoxicology approach to construct and characterize heavy metal-specific adverse outcome pathways relevant in marine risk assessment (up to 31.03.2026): Project Assistant - 01 position.
Essential Qualification: Applicant should have an M.Sc. degree in life sciences or allied areas.
Desirable Qualification: Applicant should have prior research experience in environmental science and toxicology.
Age Limit: Applicants should be less than 40 years of age as of the last date of receipt of applications.

Last date for submission of applications for all positions is 12.11.2025. Interested persons must send a brief e-mail by attaching therewith their latest resume to unique e-mail id as mentioned against the Project positions in the Notification, by 2400 hrs on 12.11.2025, mentioning the position details in the subject of the e-mail as ‘Application for the Project Position (Name of the Project Position in Capital Letters) of Advt. No. 11-R/IMSc/2025 dt. 28.10.2025’.
Date of written test / interview will be intimated later.
Outstation candidates belonging to SC / ST categories appearing for the written test and selected for interview will be reimbursed to and fro second-class railway fare/ bus fare or actual fare incurred whichever is less by the shortest route from the station of residence / work place to Chennai & back on production of original tickets.
